Final Cut Studio 2 Upgrade...NEED HELP. PLEASE

Ok I have Final cut Studio 1 in my mac and I just got the Final Cut Studio 2 upgrade, but every time I install it, it asks me for the serial number of the first final cut, which I put in and it keeps telling me it's not valid. I called Apple and they said I had the wrong version of FCP Studio 2, that the version I have is an upgrage from plan Final Cut, not Final Cut Studio...He told me to take it back and get the cheaper upgrade from Final Cut studio 1 to studio 2, but I can't return it or exchange it.
Is there anything I can do to get this damn thing to work??

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

I don't know about other places, but here in Canada most places will not return or exchange software, after you've taken it out of the cellophane wrap. Pretty sure it's the same in the States. Don't know about Puerto Rico, but it does not necessarily mean he is pirating.

He didn't exactly make it sound like that...?

Anyway, sell it on ebay then. Sounds like about your only option.

If the apple guy told you to return it then you must be able to some how. Also there is "mail", send it back to apple. pretty sure you don't have to walk into a store. just throwing that out there.

If you have to, you could always post it for sale in the marketplace here - just be explicit about what it is. There is probably somebody out there thinking of going from Final Cut Pro (not studio) to FCS2. At least you could get a few bucks back.

another option is buying an old version of the software you are supposed to be upgrading from.
