Final Cut Studio 2 really a $500- upgrade for current users??!#&

Are they really asking current full license owners to pay $500- to upgrade??? I hope I'm reading something incorrect..

It's also pretty typical. I have had FCP since version 3 and I think each major upgrade was the same $500 or so. In this case, I'd say it is a huge bargain.

I guess it depends on how you work with FCS. Some folks can likely make the upgrade price back in a day of paid work or so. But if it's more of a hobby thing it's definitely worth a peek into the features list to see if there's anything there you can't live without.

are you kidding? Just for the new program Color, $500 is a great price. Final Touch HD (which is what it was called before Apple bought it and refined it) was like $5k.

I agree. The upgrade price is quite reasonable for Color alone, let alone surround mixing in Soundtrack Pro and 3D space and tracking in Motion, to pick only a few features I am particularly interested it.

Joe,

You should jump to the Avid forum and ask them what they pay for a upgrade. For what you're getting it's a bargin.

Well considering the last two upgrades paths were(If I remember correctly) were $199 and $99 both of which happened in the last 12-18 months a $500- price tag was a surprise to me... If it's so easy for all you to make the money, maybe someone could pay for my upgrade..

That $99 was a "cross-grade" to the intel-compatible version.

Those weren't upgrades to the entire studio. You're getting upgrades to FCP, Motion, Soundtrack, Compressor, and and entirely new Color app. It's a bargain.

Take a long look at the new features and I would have to say 500 hundred is a steal. It goes beyond just FCP being re worked.

Please keep in mind that the "Color" application was a $30K, yes $30,000 software last year at NAB... Which you now get for $500!

How did Apple manage to reduce the price from 30k to a bundle upgrade of $500. Are we getting everything that was in the 30K version of color?

Cant answer that shooter but what I can say for certain is they reduced the price of shake to $500 from what $5K?

You also probably need to look at the Apple logic, buy out this programme and that drop the prices or add to existing packages then what you end up with is a system that for what it delivers is cheap and ahead of the pack. Even when you do pay a bit more for the actual Mac, add the needed software and youll be running out cheaper than a similar feature set on a pc.

It's a sweet price. Seriously, but I feel for people who bought FCP5 a day before they announced FCP6.

Honestly, I think the way apple keep secrets really screws the customer over, and being that Mac users are very loyal (I'm one of them), I think it's kind of an abusive relationship.

Apple is the man who beats his wife without ever getting caught, and we, as his wives, turn the other cheek, evne though its bruised, every single time, because, hey, what would we do without him? (sob)

'Cuz it will cost Apple a lot less in support/development than it did for the previous company and Apple will sell a LOT more copies of the program.

What's the difference? If they announce the new product two months earlier, or "leak" the information 6 months earlier, there will still be people who bought the old version the day before. How would you ever roll out a new product and not "screw" people who had bought the old version?
