Final Cut Studio 2 Color problem with HVX200 files (PLEASE Help!!)

We suddenly are incapable of uploading our HVX200 footage into Color! We have not changed our workflow whatsoever, yet out of nowhere it won't let us! We called the Apple help line and spoke to someone who knew Color and said it was because the HVX's files were MXF files. I don't know if somehow by mistake we changed our files to MXF? and if so have no idea what they were before; but they used to work in Color every time!

What can we do to get our clips properly sent to Color! we desperatly need an answer and the people at Apple had no advice other than the MXF files just won't work!

Please help!

Thank you!

Without knowing what your workflow is/was, or what point in your workflow your trying use Color on, I'm not sure exactly where the problem might lie, But I can tell you what Apple is referring to is the process that you need to "Log & Transfer" the HVX200's native MXF format files into QuickTime files that Color can read and understand.

yes- that is what we've resorted to for our last commercial shoot, however in the future with longer projects that won't be a solution. we need to be able to color correct each individual shot... which we can't do when we export the whole thing to a quicktime and put it in color. where as in the past we could drag the whole damn, chopped up timeline in and edit each individual shot without importing them all individually. this really sucks! :(

I was gonna say what Ryan was getting at. When you "Log and Transfer" the footage from the HVX into Final Cut...they become editable in the whole suite. You should be able to export from the Final Cut timeline to a Quicktime file and then edit that in Color. That is the workflow I usually use. Stupid software :badputer: Hope you can figure it out. Any word on the release of the Attack, Attack Video? Take care guys!

was the sequence properly prepared for Color? like removing effects/transitions/speed changes/titles, only having a single layer of video, all clips are in the same format, etc.

You don't have to export the whole timeline to a QuickTime Movie file. All you need to do is use File>Send To>Color. This will export the timeline as an EDL that Color will import automaticaly. Your files will all remain as separate clips which you can grade/correct individually. once all are rendered, you then do the same thing from color, but send it back to FCP. From there a new sequence appears in your bin with "( From Color )" after it. Open up that timeline and you have access to all your clips in a new corrected timeline.

Again, just grab all clips, dump em to a timeline with no edits. Then use "Send To> Color"

If this is what you are doing, then like bigbossbmb said, make sure you don't have any effects or changes done to them. Also, Color HATES subclips and doesn't play well with Motion files. If you have either, Color could simply crash at import.

And of course make sure you have plenty of Hard Drive space in the directory Color stores all the new rendered clips. Hopefully on a non-system drive!
