final cut studio 1 to 2 transfer

I am in the middle of 2 jobs that got delayed. I started the projects on final cut studio 1 and planned on geting them done a week ago but tomorow my mac pro arrives with final cut studio 2. I cant keep both computers on my desk unless I have to. Is there a way to transfer final cut 5 files to final cut 6? if there is itd work out perfect if there isnt im open to other ideas
thanks

In the past, I've found you can bring a project UP to the new FCP but not the other way around...(without jumping through major hoops, that is.).

yes im on 1 now and going to 2 I was hoping it would be just like when you get a small update the final cut pro 5 and it says would you like to update this project. If its that easy im in buisness. Thanks

Pretty much- though be careful with incredibly complex projects- i.e. those with a lot of Motion projects, filters, vfx, speed changes etc. For those I would suggest finishing off and then upgrading. Also if you have tons of render files this can be a possible source of trouble.

I'd still wait. There's nothing earth shatteringly new in FCP 6, unless you are working with P2 for example or XDCAM EX. Otherwise you're better off putting the project to bed and then upgrading fresh.

it actually comes down to desk space lol. and I dont want to leave my mac pro in a closet somewhere unless I have to stick with my imac.

Upon the release of FCS2, we upgraded last year in the middle of 90min doc., (very complex though, i.e. filters, mottion effects, stills, lots of diff. media). It was hellacious to say the least. Tons of glitchy timing stuff, etc. HOWEVER, the updates may have nipped that in the bud. As hard as it is to refrain from jumping to a new box of goodies--new software/macpro, it may just save you some headaches in the end, TRUST ME!!!

I would listen to Noah's advice - definitely good to have him in your thread, he knows a thing or two...(by the way Noah, just picked up a couple of the Call Box DVD's, they're great! Nice job!)

Lairhair---Is project coming from a non-intel? If so, this too could pose some problems.
