Final Cut pro question

hey all you final cut pro geniuses, i got a question for you. how do you make a still image from a video? my friend and i want to use an image from a project we're doing online, and can't figure out how to make the paused shot an image file, or make it so we can later change it to an image file... anyone able to help?

I don't consider myself an FCP genius, but I have done this before. Set in and out points to select the single frame you want to export, and then export the selection to the format you want. There may be better ways to do this, but this is how I usually do it.

There is a whole section of DVXUser.com dedicated to FCP questions, just so you know, and the FCP gurus hang out there.

But to quickly answer your question: When you have the scrubber head on the frame you want, go to Modify>Make Freeze Frame. Then before you tough anything else, go to File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion. And make sure you save it as a "Still Image" you can also change the "options" to make it a jpeg or whatever you want.

Have fun!

P.S. The "Final Cut Pro User Manual" under "Help" can answer those types of questions as well!

No need to do the Modify>Make Freeze Frame. That's only if you want to use it right there in the time line as such. Do just what I've quoted from Joe and you'll get what you want.

Just to throw in a little tip, if there is movement going on in the frame you are turning into a still image, then you may need to de-interlace it (de-interlace filter) before converting it to a jpeg or another type of still image. If you don't de-interlace, it will come out looking weird when you view it on a TV.
