I'm having a problem with Final cut pro hd I used the canon xl h1 and it's not playing the audio back when I get ready to edit when i plug in the head phones to the camera it does play the audio okay.

I assume you have the camera hooked up to your computer?

You might be using View External, i.e sending video to deck, camera, etc. The audio is probably selected to follow video which means you will only hear it through that device. Either change that selection to use built in audio or route your audio from camera to mixer/speakers/headphones.

If I'm understanding you correctly, when you plug the headphones into the CAMERA you can hear the audio? If so, then yes, as mentioned above you need to change a FCP setting.

There's a couple ways to do it, but one is to open the Final Cut Pro menu, and then the Audio/Video Settings menu. In there you'll see an Audio Playback drop-down menu. Just set that to "Built-in Audio" and click 'okay' and you should be good to go on using the computer speakers or headphones jack.

If you're using some other sound output you might need a different setting, but I'm guessing not.

If instead you wanted to get the sound to the camera, just go through the same steps, but select "FireWire" for the audio playback.

Good luck.
