Final Cut Pro/Dvx100b Problem! Timecode break.

Alright so, when I go to capture my footage, i click capture now, It captures for about 5 seconds then says "locating timecode break" and it really makes me mad because i cannot capture anything longer than 5 seconds.

please help me

thanks

Can you capture it fine further down? Maybe it's just the start of the tape?

Try setting On timecode break to "Make New Clip" in the User Preferences, this could create a lot of small clips though.

If you are still have problems, get another camera and record the contents of the tape over to a new tape and then capture from that tape. You'll lose the original timecode though and won't be able to use DV Start/Stop detect, etc.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like someone forgot to black the tape. :)

We've all been there man. You just have to manually log the clips, then jog between each one i.e. watch the tape, log each clip, go to L&C, find your 1st in point, then "Capture Now". Rinse and repeat for 2nd clip, 3rd... You don't have to watch the tape first if you don't want, but I find it helps me to be more organized if I'm prepared.

Next time, make sure your cam's TC settings are 'free run' or whatever it's called so it doesn't keep resetting to 0:00:00:00 (default) every time you press rec. And you might want to black the tape (record blank footage, like with the lens cap on) so that TC is laid on every part of the tape. This will also let you know if the tape is good and not a dud.

wait i get what your saying, i watch the tape, write down the timecode of the parts i want, click capture now, then just keep doing that?

so your saying to film a blank part at the beginning of every tape, and what is L & C?

1. Black out the WHOLE tape. Preferably the day/night before shooting.
2. L&C = Log and Capture

wait i get what your saying, i watch the tape, write down the timecode of the parts i want, click capture now, then just keep doing that?

Basically, yeah. It's a b*tch, but you gotta do what you gotta do right?

so i film over the WHOLE tape, like just let it sit there til the tape ends, then rewind it, and film again, am i right? aha

Regen

Regen

Set your timecode's FIRST REC to REGEN before filming and try that. I had lots of timecode breaks when one of our operators set a DVX to PRESET and the timecode would go to a preset every time the camera was turned off and back on.

With REGEN you need to anticipate shots a LOT sooner and train yourself to do more pre-roll, because it rewinds the tape slightly every time you press record and reads a bit of the previous timecode to start the next timecode where it left off.

Good luck!
Michael
