Final Cut Pro Certified?

I was thinking about taking a class to get FCP certified. Would that be a good idea? Or should I just learn it on my own? Does the certificate do any good by helping get jobs or anything like that? Any advice would help.

Thanks.

Re: Final Cut Pro Certified?

I've taken certification classes. I had great instructors who've become friends and I think it's a great idea if you have the money to spend. You'll learn a lot in a very short period of time as well as pick up a lot of great inside tips if you have someone who really knows the app backwards and forwards and uses it in the real world.

Also, if you pass the test you can plaster the Apple logo along with "Final Cut Pro" certified on your biz card, etc.

As FCP is becoming quite a standard out there, it certainly can't hurt.

I think if you teach yourself and end up being a rockin' editor, most will not care how you learned.

If you are trying to start a career in FCP or teaching it, it could be helpful though.

If you are really serious about learning it, you can teach yourself, but you have to employ every avenue of learning. books, friends, websites, every tutorial every writtten, book-DVDs, etc. IMHO

Re: Final Cut Pro Certified?

Certifications show people that you're serious about your job, but they don't show them how well you work...they can only read that from your work history. There are many industries that require certifications no matter what your level of experience is, video editing seems to be excluded from that group.

What I mean to be saying is that a certification can't hurt, but it won't get your work if you're resume isn't doing that already.

Re: Final Cut Pro Certified?

That is correct.
The most important thing is sweet skills.

If you've got the goods, don't worry about classes. You can take the certification tests without taking certified classes. I forget what it costs, but it's not much.
