Final cut pro capture settings help

I am capturingi footage via tapedeck at my school. When i bring up the capture window i can see the audio levels moving up and down but i cant hear or preview the sound as i am capturing. I logged the clip succesfully witout sound. Then as i bring up the recently captured file in quicktime player, It plays perfect with audio.

So i guess my question is.. Why am i not hearing sound when reviewing and capturing my footage in FCP?

Make sure you speakers are plugged in, and you can hear audio form other sources.
Check your audio output options on your deck at school.
Check the preview checkbox in FCPs capture window, underneath the Clip Settings Tab.

Check your audio output in FCP: View > Audio Playback, set it Built-in Output or try some of the other options (depending on your configuration). By default, audio is set to follow video, which means it'll play out of the deck, if the deck doesn't have speakers connected, you won't hear anything.
