Final Cut Pro: 7 vs. X

I am a productions student in my final semester of productions courses. This semester, we got Final Cut Pro. A professor of mine (with his own production company) had told me that FCP X may be a little difficult to master at first, but once I understand it, he tells me it is a great step up from FCP 7. I have tried to learn FCP X, but after a few weeks of editing with it, I still don't care for the new version. We have the option of using FCP 7 or FCP X, whichever we prefer. I don't want to miss out on a great program just because of short patience so I would like to know what you think is a better program: Final Cut Pro 7 or X?

There is no right or wrong answer to your question. Each program has it's own strengths & weaknesses.

If you've never used any editing software before, FCP-X will be faster to learn. If you're already an experienced editor, FCP 7 is much more conventional.

X is better at mixing codecs, frame rates and working with long GOP codecs like HDV and AVCHD. 7 is easier to work with in a broadcast environment or to make conventional deliverables.
