Hello guys, need some advice here. I edit on Premiere pro now with matrox rtx100 card, its great i like it. now i want to get final cut pro, i read about it and sounds like a good program. the only thing is im not into mac. im a pc guys. plus i like the real time effects in rtx100 with premiere pro. do you guys think FCP5 will be a better choice for me. faster, better effects, transitions, and etc? mostly it will be wedding videos. plus i like the multicam option. and will the quality be better or the same, i shoot with a DVX100B. thank you in advance please help.

They're all just tools man. If you are a good editor, you can make a good product on just about any rig (all things considered of course)

The multicam option is nice for event work like you do. But talking about built-in effects and transitions doesn't matter to me, because I think they're all hokey and reduce the professionalism of a project. That's just me though.

youre tottaly right about the effects. but what about quality thats my main concern. or speed?

i bought a powerbook not soley for finalcut- but i wanted a great portable video editing system- and its amazing. kai's right- they all do pretty much the same thing. i'd recommend apple though.

The nice thing about FCP is it's scalable. Quality wise it will do whatever you put in it. crappy dv25 footage or full blown uncompressed HD.

I have always been a mac guy but at the film course i was attending it was all PC based so i used Premiere a fair bit. All i can say is that FCP does everything Premiere does better, and a whole lot more. I prefer it over Avid, it has the same features and is just as steady and reliable and more intuitive.
More and more pro editors are using it for feature films (The Corpse Bride, Intollerable Cruelty).
Its definatly the way to go.

If you come to the FCP editing section, expect that the majority of the responses will be to get FCP.

FCP is a great editing program. I've loved it since moving from Premier 6.5 with a Pinnacle card. Lots more stable than what I had before.

But you say your PP with the Matrox card is great. I would not shell out the bucks for a new editing system just for the multicam feature. If what you have is working great, use the money to buy something else for yourself.

Yeah, I was a pc guy too until I started cutting with FCP. If you're worried about using Mac OS, don't even sweat it. I made the switch without problems. Expose is an amazing feature. As for FCP, if it's good enough for Walter Murch it's good enough for me. Just my 2 1/2 cents...
