Final Cut Pro 10.4.9 update makes ProResRAW worth it.

FCPX and Resolver user here...Love them both...don't take these for granted...I remember the days learning on a NewTek Video Toaster and wishing and wanting an Avid Media Composer or Media 100 system as a student....Pick your tool..they're both AWESOME. What FCPX does have over Resolve is the tremendous amount of 3rd party plug-in support...

I use all four of the big four platforms and FCP X is the fastest, simplest to use by far, once you stop trying to make it behave like a "traditional" editor.

By four main platforms I'm guessing you mean Avid, Premiere, FCP and Resolve?

But as far as fastest, the fastest editor I ever used is Lightworks. No other program has anything on it. It's not the Swiss army knife. It's a professional editor and for that it's the fastest I ever used. Interesting that Resolve is put in a main category as an editor but Lightworks normally isn't. Resolve has just now got into proper editing. Lightworks is older than Avid and has been Avid's only competitor in Hollywood.

Many don't even know about it, even though the only other program more used in Hollywood to cut actual movies is Avid. Lightworks comes second. Nobody really cuts on Premiere or FCP, let alone Resolve. So it's interesting the program is not that well known. At least outside of Hollywood editors.

Lightworks is very fast and it is the simplest, reason it is the fastest. Just brought it up because you mentioned fastest. ;)

FCP X IS iMovie Pro. It's funny that old school editors use that as a put down but it's actually what Apple has done and it's a brilliant long term sales and marketing strategy. Editing doesn't have to use the traditional
preview, viewer, tracks on a timeline model to be a successful tool.

It has nothing to do with being an old school editor. I'm definitely not. It's just that FCP X never felt professional. It felt more like something to cut short youtube videos, in a time youtube work was not really pro work yet. Because FCP X never felt fit for the long haul like Avid and Lightworks do, where you could tackle long form editing. FCP X felt like something designed to throw short clips together real quickly.

It might have morphed today. But as I said I have zero interest in it now, with Resolve being a basically free editor which comes with the best grader and compositing in the business and also pro audio to spice up the deal. And Blackmagic will only make it better, in a way that will be difficult for Apple to keep up.

Just my personal opinion, regardless of the childish downvotes from FCP X fanboys.

downvotes in general are childish.

I am (almost) free of any emotions to my tools. Camera software whatever. My first priority in editing is how fast do I get a great result. Comparing is a bit difficult. By a long term use you have skills and you are fast in one product. It's not appropriate to compare the expert level with trial experience. Same for me as FCPX user. I was editing 4 yrs with premiere and don't feel comfortable with it anymore. But if you have the impression that sth "feels" not professional it's probably difficult to get an open-minded look at it.

I don't want to convince nobody. I'm not an Apple fan boy at all. Quite the contrary, FCPX is the reason I am still with Apple. I have hours of footage that end in a 3min video. For me keywords and media management in FCPX is really priceless. An editor friend uses FCPX for feature films and motion pictures. He says it works great.

Yeah, this is pretty cool!

At the link below Apple details which cameras can change temperature and ISO/Offset Exposure. Panasonic looks great with even the S1H footage having the ability to change temperature. Apparently this has something to do with how the camera processing the RAW signal.

Apple hasn't updated the list with info about the FX9 and AS7III. It will be interesting to see how their RAW performs.

Are there any S1H users who can test how well this works?

Just to chime in as a S1H user, yes it works well. I've already used it on a short project. It is what ProRes RAW should have been from the start.

I normally use Resolve and have not used FCPX much in the past year, but I can see using it more. 5.9K ProRes RAW is really nice.

I loaded up some prores raw footage from two years ago (EVA1) and all the exposure controls popped up so that’s cool that it was in there from the start

Thanks!

It will be interesting to see how the RAW on the S5 compares.
