Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1

Why is it that when I want to view the canvass window (which is small) at full screen by clicking the little movie projector icon (which may or may not work for what ever the reason) in the upper right hand corner of my monitor (iMac G5 Intel) the larger image (quite unlike the one I get in iMovie which shows almost exactly what the end product will look like no matter what stage of editing you're at) is dark, grainy, choppy, dreadful, and leaves me with NO indication of what the final product will look like. HELP!

It's because a computer monitor is not designed to accurately portray NTSC footage. If you pop a commercial DVD into your computer to watch a movie and switch to full screen you'll find that it looks just as bad. The only solution is either an NTSC monitor (expensive) or a tv or portable DVD player as an alternative. You can get an adapter from Apple for mini-DVI to s-video to use a televison.

I have noticed that iMovie looks much better on the monitor so they must be doing some kind of conversion to accomplish that, which Final Cut does not do, I suppose because they presume that professionals who use it will use NTSC monitors.
