Final Cut Express capturing problem

Hi. Hope you guys can help.

My capturing problems have reached new heights. I need to capture some DV footage with FCE. When I open FCE, it give me the "Unable to locate the following external devices: Apple FireWire NTSC (720X480)" message, despite the fact that everything is plugged in and turned on... the DV cam says "DV IN", and if I unplug it FCE would say it can't locate my DV.

I have tried all combinations: different camcorders, different firewire (I even bought the Apple firewire... still doesn't work), restarting the Mac. iMovie is fine, for some strange reason, so I know it's not my cam nor my firewires. The problem lies with my FCE... I even tried uninstall and reinstalling FCE, still doesn't work.

If I go start the program anyways and just to to File -> Capture, the program crashes without even asking me if I wish to send Apple a report...

In the past when I was using Panther, I would get inconsistency with this problem... sometimes it works. But I upgraded to Tiger recently and this never works now.

I've tried various different "Easy Settings" on FCE, but they all give me the same message "Unable to locate..."

The footages were shot with the DVX 100B, but the firewire port on it doesn't work AT ALL, so i used my spare, Sony TRV19.

I use FCE version 2.0.3

Thanks
