a. Can you capture and edit 24p and/or 24pA in this NLE? The intended output is web and DVD, not a filmout.

b. Have you personally done this or personally seen this done before?

Thanks.

The reason I ask is I have heard it can be done, but the output is 29.97. I need an inexpensive NLE in a short period of time that I can cut dvx footage on.

Hmm- that's kind of a catch-22 then. You can always do a 29.97 edit from a DVX100. 24p native editing is important to a film output or a native 24p DVD. But if you treat as standard NTSC DV you'll be ok with FCE. 24p native editing is one of the many bonuses you get by moving up to Final Cut Pro.

So I can shoot 24p and edit on a 29.97 timeline without problems?

Sure- the camera is always adding pulldown so it's 24p + 3:2(24p Standard) or 2:3:3:2(24p Advanced) pulldown. It becomes a 29.97 DV tape after the pulldown is added. FCP can remove the advanced pulldown automatically if you want to cut 24p native. Otherwise any DV-compatible NLE can cut with the pulldown left in. The image quality is identical. But the short answer is- shoot 24p Standard, edit as DV NTSC. You get the 24p "look" and can edit in FCE.
