Final cut- Capturing Footage

Hello, i am on an imac, os 10.4.9, and i had final cut pro 5. I have a crappy one chip canon zr 100, camera (im getting a dvx soon, don't worry!) and my problem is, that when i shoot footage, and go to plug my camera in the fireiwre, in final cut, and i hit command 8 to capture, sometimes final cut doesnt recognize it. So i had to unplug it and try it again, and then it will work. But some times unplugging and pluggin back in wont work, i had to turn my camera off, restart final cut, and do it a couple times till i get it to work. I want to be able to plug it in my camera, hit apple 8, and capture without having to redo these stupid steps. Any ideas?

You can try the Refresh A/V Devices in the View menu. But beyond that, the solution sad to say is get a better capture device, preferably a deck.
