Final Cut 2 with sony HDV cam

Okay, here's the deal. I'm going to shoot a doc in Peru for 2 months, using the canon xh-a1 camera. I intend to cut on final cut when I return. Unfortunately, some of what I need to shoot will be in almost total darkness (won't allow me to set up lights) so I had to buy a sony HDR-HC7 (consumer) so I could shoot in IR. The image looks great, the camera will do what I need. The only problem is that after reading the manual I find out that this sony camera is NOT compatible with macs (and I read all the reviews, wasn't mentioned). Anyway, I will be shooting in 1080i and I figure there must be some kind of work-around so that I can get this into my final cut system. Any suggestions?

thanks,

Have you tried with the HDV 1080i/60 presets? I've heard some folks had success via these and also via iMovie for the captures.

Its just HDV, get an HDV VTR and you should be off and running. Maybe the new Sony M1U (I think that's the new compact one). If you want to use a camera as a VTR then try the tapes in the XH A1. And it says it has a firewire interface. I'd think, in a worst case, FCP should at least read the video, if perhaps not the control. In which case you could still do capture now w/ non-controllable device. Good luck.

cheers.
