Man, Misic videos are very different one from another. Each one can reuire a whole set of tricks, effects and looks, and even more than in dramatic work, theese techniques make for a very big part of the video's impact. So your question has two problems: it canot be answered without knowing what project are you talking about and if answered is basically half of your job done.

But there are some things that can be said. First and foremost: Decide on how you want it to look before you start shooting. Do some tests with the intended post work, so you don't end up throwig a bunch of effects in for no reason. The rest is just regular plain old, cinematography and a lot of creativity...

Thanx taubkin. As you can see I have a lot to learn. I have a few videos on my plate. The first is a rap video. Shooting part of it in a club seen part green screen and part in a house setting.
Another is a gospel video still in concept stages but all will be shot inside of the church.
Another alternative. Shooting in taxi cab, bathroom, and a cool looking trail in the woods.
Many more to come.
I pretty much need to be ready for anything.

Re: Filters & settings needed for music videos

Two options: First you use the filters in your NLE and add them in post. A lot of filers for free and the convenience fo deciding NOT to use them after the images were shot.

Second: Plan what you want and rent them. The cost for the rental of a filter is around 5 bucks a day, so, say you spend 20-30 bucks each shooting day and you got already some 6 filters to choose from. Now, nobody can actually suggest you wich ones to use since we don't know what you want, but if you give us pointers, maybe we can help you out. Any particular effect (from a film or another music video) you are trying to emulate?
