Filters/Gels for Britek (Rostronics) ?

Re: Filters/Gels for Britek (Rostronics) ?

The Britek 600's don't have any green issues. We're talking only about the Britek DayPhoto 5000's. Those are HMI lights, and they have a green spike in them. The regular Britek tungsten lights don't have any green, so don't worry! :)

Re: Filters/Gels for Britek (Rostronics) ?

Thanks Barry. I'm very new to the lighting thing because I've always used the Home Depot lights until recently. :p

Re: Filters/Gels for Britek (Rostronics) ?

Yeah, it's a name people use to filter out the "newbies" on the set, sort of like "snipe hunt"...

Like it isn't obvious enough who is learning?! :D

Re: Filters/Gels for Britek (Rostronics) ?

Well, okay, "filter out" is probably the wrong word. Probably should have said "mock", "make fun of", "have a laugh at the expense of", etc... ;D

Re: Filters/Gels for Britek (Rostronics) ?

Actually it was 'invented' to be able to bill for it. How much do you think a bean counter would authorize for clothes pins? He doesn't want to appear nieve so he won't ask what a C-47 is and lets $1.00 per C-47 slide. Sounds like a bargain! Only needed 15 each day! That's what they mean by creative accounting!

Re: Filters/Gels for Britek (Rostronics) ?

15 per day? I go through hundreds and hundreds of those per shoot.

Yeah, that's the ticket...

;D

Any size larger than the scrim/gel holder on your fixture, then trim to size with scissors.

Gels are pretty cheap. I started with three Bogen filter packs which have 12 different gels in each pack - 12" x 12" each.

If you trim the gels to slide in the location shown above, they will be a little floppy, but that's OK. You may have to take barndoors off first, slide in gel and replace doors. Most Pro lights have gel holders, which is a metal frame that holds a trimmed gel and slides into the same location. You just need to know what space is avalable on you Britek head to order one - about $10 (see my post at the top of page 2).

If you look at the top barndoor, you will see a couple of clips for holding gels. There's another pair of clips on the bottom door, but you can't see it here.

Mostly for gelling, I use small frames on an adjustable arm fitted on the same stand as the light fixture. That way I can change gels or diffusion without having my fingers get burnt. The two I use are the

and the Lowel F1-15 Standard Frame-up for "Industry Standard" 20x24" gels, gobos and scrims.
This one will need a lobo for locking onto the stand, but I got both frame and lobo used at B&H at a considerable savings and in good condition.

For some reason, I can't load this image, but it's similar.

Good luck.
