Filters filters filters

There's a few shots I'm doing in the next couple weeks where reflection is not welcome. So, the choice would be to buy a polorizing lens. Does any one not recomend getting one for any other reasons or does any one want to recomend any. I am willing to spend under $200. 72mm for the DVX100a. Also I keep getting mixed feed backs about putting UV filters as protection. Your thoughts..... THANK YOU!

this would be the one I am looking at...

I like linear polos, they give more control. They are also useful for bringing down a hot sky. (at some angles)

As far as the UV filter for protection, I don't understand that. For me, putting any extra glass infront of the lens (especially a nicely coated leica lens!) is just degrading the image, and possibly adding reflections and flairs. In regards to proctction, that's what the lens cap is for. If you are worried about blowing sand or flying rocks hitting the lens while the camer is mounted on a stickypod ding 60mph, then yes an opticly clear piece of glass might be a good idea, but for shooting in a living room or somebodys wedding I wouldn't bother. I've shot Panavision to PXL2000 and never had a scratch on a lens. You just have to be careful with it.

Thanks for your input. Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like circular is more of a safe bet but maybe not the absolute best perfomance and linear if used correctly can be better. Can you elaborate on the differences you've encountered. Also are there any musts as far as owning lenses ( ones that if you rent so many times you might as well buy )
.Thank you.
