Filters, Accessories, oh my..

Ok Ok Ok.. I am certain this has been covered a gazillion times and I apologize for only digging a few pages deep to search for answers (at work, browsing must be kept to a minimal)..

I am just a click or two away from picking up a 100b and cant be more excited and more freaked out. I dont put down this much money on a single object that often but I know this is what I want and just need some advice from the experts (you guys and gals) to ensure I am set correct.

1. Filters - What do I need to pick up for protection and what do you recommend for usage. I plan on shooting a lot of outdoors (sunny Florida) water/action sports.. Kiteboarding to be specific.. What filters would you suggest? Any specific ones?

2. Video capture - Can you capture to a remote drive with the 100b?

3. Wide angle lens - can you recommend some options? Entry level thru Pro .. price is an issue, but can be overlooked if we are talking about huge quality differences.

4. Weatherproofing... or Waterproofing.. I have seen options ranging from the super expensive down to the 500$ waterproof bags.. are these any good? I am mostly looking for something that will not be submerged too deep as I stand in the water filming but I need to protect the camera.

Thanks so much everyone!

For the filters, get a UV and leave it on...ALL THE TIME. Protects the lense. Next, for outdoors, get a Linear polarizer. B+W/schneider make AWSOME filters. You may also want to get an ND grad filter.

2. The dvx cannot capture straight to any ol' external drive, you will need something like the fire store FS4 for that, or a quickstream. You can output through firewire into a program such as DV rack with it as well with a laptop.

3. Wide angle. I recommend sticking strictly to Century optics. I believe the .6x is relatively inexpensive. It will give you about a 40% wider field of view. The Collinscraft Red Eye is also a good choice. www.vfgadgets.com for the red eye.

Can't give any advice on the best waterproof housing, as I havent done my own research and don't own one. I know it's a hassle, but please search thoroughly for topics like these. They have been discussed at length and the answers ARE out there.

Hope all that helps!

I was checking out the red eye and it looks like a very good lens adapter but can it be used with the pany 7x wide lens and polarizer all at the same time?

I bought a portabrace rain cover to film at the beach (California here). That will
do the job just fine in keeping out sand. For underwater, you're talking bucks
for underwater housing.

Since you are in Florida, might consider buying an enhancing filter, brings out
even brighter colors. That would work well at a harbor, to bring out the blues
of the water and colors of the boats, just a thought.
