Filter Woes

Hi,

I've got filter questions, and I'm having trouble finding answers. Hopefully those more knowledgeable than I can clear some of these issues up and inform us all in the process:

1. Glass vs. Resin vs. Plastic

Can someone give a low-down basic feature/performance comparison between these filter types?

I know glass filters are superior to resin and plastic, but for everything but the most demanding situations, is the additional cost to upgrade from resin to glass worth it (especially for large (read expensive) 4x4 filters)?

2. Multicoated vs. Single Coated vs. Uncoated

Multicoated is better than single coated, which is better than uncoated, because of reduced internal reflections in the optics.

But, (to repeat my previous question), is the upgrade worth the cost for all but the most demanding situations?

3. UV: Tinting?

Do you use a UV filter with tinting or one that is neutrally-colored when you're using it as an all-purpose protective filter? Why?

4. Save me the $$ :)

I'm looking for a UV & polarizing filter to go into my Cinetactics 4x4 filter holders. Without sacrificing too much in image quality, which do you suggest I buy? Who do you suggest I buy them from?

Thanks for the help,
Todd
