a tota light? lets say you just have the 4 leaf barndoors, one could clip a diffuser or gel right on to the doors? ( and not buy or use a filter frame)
The thing with those pesky tota is they run hot as hell. So the thing about the frame for those lights is it gets the gel or diffusion away from the source. Any other fixtures the barn doors are fine. And in the case of a low wattage light such as arri 300 and 150 I cut all my gels to the size of the scrims and place them where the scrims go. Not this will not work if you are using scrims, as it will result in a squishy mess.

I've been doing the ol' clip thing and its been okay. I did splurge for a fitler frame for my tota, but holy smokes...what is $27.95 for? some rods attached together? holy, holy. boy, just seeing that in writing makes me a little pissed.
19.95 for a pack of gels? that will wear out? holy, holy.
$242 for a flexible (1) tota light system.should be good, but it does freakin' add up. I'm still wonderin' if I should have gotten the flags and snake like thing that connects with them? what is that called. anyways, I passed on that for now. I think the black flag was $19? wah wuh?
