Filter for echoey audio?

There isn't much you can do about that! If at all possible you may want to bring your actors back for ADR if it is that bad. You can put reverb in, but you can't really take it out.

Capt. is correct, it's about all you can do. Trick is to set your threshold correctly, and set the release to roll off in as natural a manner as you can.

If it's too drastic of a sound change between the gate open and closed, duplicate your sound to a new audio track, bring the sound level of that new audio track way down, so you have just enough to fill in the totally silent spaces the noise gate will leave.
