Since many of us are about to buy the Formatt Matte Box, I'd like to suggest some (more) affordable alternatives to 4 x 4 glass filters. Sure, it's great that the matte box is only $279, but let's say you want a mere 4 filter set of 4 x 4 glass filters. At an average of $150 each--that's another $600. You want half a dozen filters--that'll be $900.
One obvious alternative is renting filters as you need them--this is a pretty logical alternative to owning a wide range of filtration. Filters (4 x 4) generally rent for $7-$9/filter/day.
Another alternative is resin 4 x 4 filters. Well-made optical resin filters are as good as or even better than glass filters in terms of optical quality. They're also a third of the price of glass filters. Of course they're not as durable as glass filters, but with some careful handling they can last a long time. At this point I have no idea exactly what filters will fit in the Formatt box, so we'll have to do a bit of testing, but here are a couple sources for 4 x 4 resin filters.
Lee Filters

These are just some 4 x 4 sets that Lee sells, but at about $115 per set of 3 filters they seem like a good deal--especially for grads. They also have a complete range of individual filters. The Lee grads are 100mm x 150mm x 2mm. The non-grads are 100mm x 100mm x 2mm.

These are sold under the name, Hitech, and I can personally vouch for the high quality. I have some ND grads and they're excellent. These filters are 100mm x 125mm x 1.5mm (for grads). The non-grads are 100mm x 100mm x 1.5mm. They also have a line of Opti-flex filters that are semi-disposable and only 0.5mm thick.
At this point, I have no idea if the Lee or Formatt filters are compatable with the Formatt box, but I think it's worth finding out.
