Filmtools ripoff....car mount alternatives?

Can anyone recommend a good car mount triangulation kit? I had my heart set on the 3025 kit from Filmtools but they decided to arbitrarily increase the price by more than double :thumbdown (screenshot attached).

Obviously, they are jerking people around, so I'd rather spend my cash elsewhere if there is an alternate option and alternate vendor.

Thanks!

i suspect this could be a mistake. if you look at their other mounts, you can get a much nicer mount supporting 20 pounds for much less. filmtools is expensive but they are nice folks.

Unfortunately, it's not. I called and they said that is the new price. I did find that if you buy the Gripper 3025 and triangulation kit separately, it's about $420. Only a $40 increase from before. I did a line item comparison of the separate products against the kit and it's the same, so who knows what the hell is going on.

Their reasoning was "cost of parts have gone up."

;)

Having owned a machine shop in a past life, and built a fair amount of stuff in short runs, I have been shocked a few times when I reviewed what a product cost to build after a run. I have had to deliver a increases to some customers since at the present price the more I built, the more I lost. Not saying this is the case here, but it does happen.

The conversation I had most often was when someone would want a quote on a run of parts. I would give them a price and a frown would ensue. The customer would say that Ol' Fred's Machine Shop built them for half your quote! I respond that you should continue to use Ol' Fred. Customer says, I would, but they went out of business. Oh!

The retail price on things can change pretty quickly when vendors change.

i get cost of parts. unfortunately, in this situation, you can buy nicer parts from the same dealer and put together a nicer car mount for less money. and according to the OP, you can buy the same parts, just not in a kit, for around half of the money. makes no sense...

Hey everyone, Jim from Filmtools here. We must apologize for a pricing mixup. A temporary glitch resulted in the wrong part number on some of the car mount kits, therefore the pricing was wrong. We’ve fixed the issue and our website now shows the appropriate prices. Here is a link to the item that was shown in the screenshot attached to the first post.

When you called to confirm the pricing, the person you talked to was referencing the part number on the page (which was incorrect at the time). Sorry for the confusion and we hope you’ll take a look at the corrected pages.

Thanks,
Jim Martin

i stumbled upon this thread because I was going back to the Filmtools page to order the kit and was surprised that the price had gone up since I'd bookmarked it last month. After seeing this post I went to the link you provided above and the price is listed at $429.75. Is that the correct price from now on?
