Hi guys,

Hope this is in the right place?

was wondering if I could pick your collective brains for a bit of research purposes here please.

I need to get a list of some films that have used televisions and close ups of television screens within the film,
films that come to mind off the top of my head are,

'Saw' series
'Ring 1 2'
'Inland Empire'

Thank you

Indy

No Vacancy
White Noise
Deja Vu (kinda of?)

And are you wanting films that have the TV a good portion of the film or can it be anywhere in the film at random times? Because I know a good load where I remember the TV in the scene.

Wow, this thread could probably go on forever. But anyway, here's my just-off-the-top-of-my-head contribution of a single title: CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND.

I'm really after... 'And are you wanting films that have the TV a good portion of the film'....

Where the TV is used as a device or a tool.

Thanks Guys

Since we're on Spielberg films...
E.T. comes to mind. As does Jurrasic Park, Minority Report, Munich, and a few others.

In what capacity does the TV or display need to be involved?

It needs to be delivering other narrative(s) that may or may not be connected to the main narrative, rather than just being on in the background.

I mentioned the use of the TV in E.T. above, it's a good one. It shows that Elliott is now connected with E.T., feeling what he's feeling.

In Munich family members have to watch and learn the fate of their loved ones via the now famous TV broadcast. It's their main source of information relating to the hostage situation.

Apollo 13 comes to mind as another one. It's more than just a TV on in the background.

Nice one thanks MAH, I'll check them out :dankk2:

The Truman Show? It's about TV and has lots of people watching them :)

V For Vendetta, has the 1984 like broadcasts, and almost all vignettes of the 'city people' are shown by them watching V's broadcasts, or Stephen Fry's tv show.

V for Vendetta
Robocop "I'd buy that for a dollar!"
Robocop II
Frost Nixon
Wall E (hehe this one is difficult to describe)

These are the ones that come to mind right now

The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. In case you're not familiar, it's about a Cousteau-esque oceanographer/documentary filmmaker who is at a low-point in his career and sets out on a voyage to find the shark who ate his friend. The TV is used to show a pseudo-flashback where Zissou's team is gathered around a TV, watching an episode of Zissou's documentary series, when times were good. And Wellem Dafoe's character, Klaus, comments "That's what it used to be like." I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but I thought that was in interesting use of a television to show a flashback of sorts.

Also, Lost Highway. It plays at an important and creepy role in the plot at the beginning of the film.
