HI, Im looking for a list of films that have been remade (once, twice or even three times). (and preferably with good use of lighitng) Here is what i have so far:

1. Psycho (1960), (1998) - havnt seen either yet...
2. The Time Machine (1960, 2002) - I like the original one better, they are both good, but the special effects in the new one are impressive.

Thanks if you can help!

You've never seen Psycho ? WTF?

RUN OUT and rent this ASAP. A Masterpiece. (The remake is shot for shot; literally)

Haha, we are watching it in class soon!, thanks for the websites.

Take anything that Hollywood has made in the last five years, and that will be some kind of a remake. :)

In my opinion Oceans Eleven is one of the best remakes ever. Sodenberg (sp?) really made it his own movie.

Regarding the remake of Psycho, I haven't see it either, so this is an honest question and not an attempt to start a raging debate. But if it's shot for shot then really what's the point in the remake? Was it an homage? Was there some other motivation that I'm unaware of?

Chris

Soderbergh for me is one of thoe most overrated filmmakers working in Hollywood today and OCEANS 11 is beyond hype while Oceans 12 is one of the worst spectacles of filmmaking I have ever seen.

(just chiming in) :O

I agree about Ocean's Twelve. It just didn't have the magic. To me Ocean's Eleven is one of the sharpest films out there. It just bleeds "cool." Anyway, I really really like it. :)

Soderbergh is hit and miss. I really liked Ocean's Eleven, and I enjoyed his remake of Solaris ... though I think I'm the only one who did.

Soderbergh is consistantly dull and unexciting. His films just seem very flat to me. I though Ocean's 11 was a load of pretty boys acting to a weak script and wearing expensive suits. A cool heist film is the remake of the Thomas Crown Affair. The ending of that film shows a true mastery of film making!

All the above is, of course, IMHO.

Agrees with Oceans Eleven...

I am a HUGE fan of 1960 Psycho (actually Hitch's entire 1954-1964 catalogue, for that matter), but I didn't care for the recent remake. Even if it is a shot-by-shot remake, it didn't have that special something that makes 1960 Psycho so amazing. Probably because it has to be near impossible to recapture the original Tony Perkins performance. Brilliant. :)

I thought that the Psycho remake demonstrated how film making has moved on since 1960. The original was excellent in its day, but has been surpassed now. Compared to a good modern horror/thriller, it isn't at all shocking or scary IMHO.

I realise the point that Hitchcock achieved his shock without showing any gore etc. and the fact that Psycho has been corrupted by countless spoofs and imitations, so it is hard to be fully absorded by it.

I would still like to see it on the big screen though..hmm...gives me the idea for a new thread...

Agreed, Josh. His performance was perfect. The setting (house) was perfect. The remake changed both those things. Vince Vaughn is no Anthony Perkins and Anne Heche certainly is no Janet Leigh in that shower.

Oh, and Gus Van Sant doesn't deserve to smell Hitchcock's ****.

I agree with that Horseman

I'm surprised Gus didn't make a BELA TARR INSPIRED version of Psycho and turn Norman into a little nancy boy (not that theres anything wrong with that)

I enjoyed Psycho (even the remake was fun I thought, if not original; it's not my money) and I have zero issues with the remake (including the talent).

What makes it work for me is that it's one of those rare 'This could happen films'. No gore, no fright gags just straight up 'this is one spooky mother ****er'. Havent we all stayed at least one time at a 'Bates Motel' in the middle of bum flocked egypt?

I don’t think “Ocean’s Eleven” is meant to be a movie so much as it’s just a chance to watch the Rat Pack.

Even so, simultaneously robbing five separate casinos is more engaging by far than robbing a single vault.

The Clonus Horror (1979)

remade as...

The Island (2005)

Though, it's arguable that it's a remake. Ripoff seems the word now. Robert Fiveson (director of "The Clonus Horror") is suing Michael Bay for plagiarism. :engel017:

How about The Italian Job? I never saw the 1969 version, but I thought the remake was pretty good.

Really? I wanted to kill myself watching this remake. Well not myself but someone, ya know?

O12 was an insult. I want to SUE to get my rental money bad it was so bad. Clooney better get his arse back in the game. He hasn't done anything since Confessions but he sure has done 3 films with Steven (and a television flop)

I should be an Agent.

I think "Equlibrium" was a remake of "Logan's Run."

If it wasn't, it was almost page-for-page identical in script.

I think a few pages of "1984" got muddled in too...
