'They Live' John Carpenter movie from late 80's early 90's

I don't think a day has gone by since that movie when I didn't think about the thought conditioning that occurs in our society. Someday, I'd like to make a low budget version of the movie.

One of the first films to affect me, I did not see all the way through.

A bunch of use from the neighborhood went to see "The House of Dark Shadows" (based on the gothic soap opera). I was 9 years old. We got to the theatre before the previous showing was over and went in to get seats. We walked into the middle of a very intense scene where Barnabas Collins (the vampire) was beating a guy with a cane down some steps. I remember freaking out, running into the lobby, where I called my Dad to come get me. It really shook me up . I renewed my subscription to "Famous Monsters of Filmmland" and shortly thereafter, bought my first camera, a fully-automatic, non-reflex GAF Super8 camera at K-Mart. I wanted to make movies that freaked people out as much as "The House of Dark Shadows" freaked me out. I still haven't seen the movie all the way through.

Also,

"Jerimiah Johnson". I went to the theatre to see it and when it was over, I called my Dad and told him that I was going to stay and see the movie and I would call when I needed a ride. I sat through it 2 more times. It is a beautiful movie and was struck by how the main character made his way through the world.

By Hollywood standards, THEY LIVE was a low budget movie!

Carpenter finances his movies himself and stays out of "the system".

It was an awesome film though. I love it to this day.

ought2be....yea, I thought about my post and realized 'They Live' was low budget...another reason I think it was effective and enjoyable.

i remember dark shadows,i was delivering news papers and everybody was watching it 4pm after school....... liver eating johnson(his real name) the indians coined that . that was a great movie...another one is mountain men with Heston and Brian Keith... a really good mini series CENTINNIAL the beginning is good then it kinda falls flat

i suppose some thing that made you think a certian way. like hum i never thought of it that way. um watching my first forifen film made me realize hey movies are mad better elsewhere and i havent went back since.

forifen film? What's that?

I mean there's been films that I just really really loved and have been inpsired by; either technically as an artist or for just livin life; but changing my life? I don't know; it's just a movie ya know?

I'm trying to find one; but I find it hard pressed to have alife altering moment from a film.

I thought Saving Private Ryan was one of the best films I've ever seen.

Everything about it inspiries me..one day when I win the lottery and get my millions...or break into Hollywood...im gonna make a WWII film...inspired from that movie...but 10x's better if I can.

I feel the same way, but i've heard of some people say that after seeing such and such it altered there life because it was at that moment they decided to become a filmmaker. Not think about it, but actually become one, or know at that moment that film (at any level) will be their career.

I never experienced that, but have seen some stuff that has inspired the hell out of me to make something.

well if not for film or a movie that inspired you. you would not be here making movies or would you? some child prodigy who picked up a camera and started to tell stories? so where would you be today without aw inspiring movie clip that made you decide to be a film maker. for me i seen more film than i have read books (sad i know) so there are films that have opened me up to a different way of thinking......

Well yeah; but that's not life-changing or altering.

I once saw an ad in the paper for a Repo Man and thought 'That's be a cool job...' and applied and became a Repo Man (ages 19 to 21). Know what I mean? I guess that ad in the classifieds was one piece of work

I too have heard people say 'This CHANGED MY LIFE!' but I have to sya I'm not that easily influenced or manipulated by any media actually (Film, Art, Music). I love and appreciate and also have made music and art and films and it is just that; someone making it for creative expression or entertainment (or in todays' to make a buck' world).

Sure; films like Schindlers List showed me sides of human nature and events in history we cannot forget or films like The Passion may make people question their faith...

But for me; it is simply a film. I either laughed or cried or was entertained or educated but altered and changed? No. I just can't be.

If a film inspired me to climb Everest and I did; it would be the climb that changed me NOT THE FILM

life is forever changing, revolution, evolution whatever comes in our path changes us constantly.did you ever look back and wonder why you took some road and made that left turn and didn't stay on the straight one that everybody else took. please forgive me if i'm wrong but from what i've read it seems that many of you are nonconformist if not rebellious and you have a gift and you want to tell the story.............and we're keeping an eye on you especially you HUDSON
