films that changed your life(or made you more aware)

Made me think different:
Fight Club, Fahrenheit 911, Super Size Me, Leaving Las Vegas, Blood in Blood out, Bully, Kids, Monster, Thirteen, Hotel Rwanda, I could go on and on......

I had the most fun at Return of the Jedi. I had grown up with the trilogy and finally being able to walk into the Egyptian Theatre after six hours was so like, ****! My sister and I jumped up and gave each other a high-five and everyone in line cheered for us. I don't think I was ever so excited like I was than.

Made me more aware: killing fields, platoon, and I know I'm missing some

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, at the drive-in, when I was six, sitting in the back seat with my parents up front and the old-school metal speaker hanging in the car window and a big Tupperware of popcorn my mom brought from home and a styrofoam ice chest filled with those 10-ounce bottles of Coke... That was the movie that made me love movies, and still does.

The Wizard of Oz, The Green Pastures, Shaft, The Mack, Superfly, Midnight Cowboy, A Fist Full of Dollars, 2001, The Exorcist, Hard Times, The Bear, Alien, Excalibur, The Last of the Mohican's, Jurassic Park, Hell Raiser, Lord of Illusion.

Star wars (first 3) that made me a real movie fanatic.

The Rock it was something in that movie to make me get the feel of movie magic.

Gladiator - Showed me how a great movie should be made

Black Hawk Down - Never in my whole life have i experienced that type of rush in a theater before.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned City of God...talk about a life changing film.

I think El Mariachi has had the biggest influence on me, though. Don't know that I'd be here today without it...

aw hard times .i was trying to remember that one for another thread

Battle of Britain - Guy Hamilton 1969 (theatrical - not DVD - release. For being a missed opportunity that can never come again. A film that could have been perfect, but wasn't)
Lawrence of Arabia - David Lean 1962 (for the perfect melding of cinematography and direction)
Gladiator - Ridley Scott 2000 (for the perfect melding of story with CG)
Lost in Translation - Sofia Coppola 2003 (as a "little" movie that delivered through incredible direction - Coppola should have won the Academy Award for direction - and the perfect cast)
Schindler's List - Steven Spielberg 1993 (for great story telling and making black & white seem like reality)
The Godfather - Coppola 1972 (for simply being the only film I have never tired of seeing over and over and over and ...)
The Day the Earth Stood Still - Robert Wise 1951 (for being one of the first to depart from the "traditional" sci-fi film structure and actually tell a story, deliver a message and have that freaking tall robot without it being hokey)
The Player - Robert Altman 1992 (for the opening tracking shot alone, which peaked my interest in making movies and for Griffin Mill's pretentious regard for his Range Rover, which inspired me to buy one - only partly kidding on the last bit)
The Sixth Sense - Shyamalan 1999 (for surprising me at the end and for great story writing that can be emulated but never matched)
The Sting - George Roy Hill 1973 (just because I took this really nice girl to see it at the theatre and there was this embarrassing incident involving this poor guy's popcorn in the row behind us and I didn't mean to and ... well ... never mind ...)

The Karate Kid made me more aware of the power of the "Crane Kick". I had my doubts at first, but after seeing Daniel-san put Johnny down with it I became aware of its true power.

I also picked up a couple nuggets of wisdom from this film, too.

Miyagi: "No such thing a bad student, only bad teacher. Teacher say, student do."

Miyagi: "Karate come from China, sixteenth century, called te, 'hand.' Hundred year later, Miyagi ancestor bring to Okinawa, call *kara*-te, 'empty hand'."

COBRA KAI!!!!!!!! STRIKE FIRST, STRIKE HARD, NO MERCY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I had to go for the trifecta.
