Films of the Year 2014

I guess, it's deja vu all over again...

Pick your top three movies you've seen this year.

There's lots of films I still need to catch up on, but here's my favourite three of the year so far:

1. Boyhood
2. Interstella (despite it's many flaws)
3. Chef

Whiplash is my #1 after seeing it tonight. Not sure how to rank others but loved Nightcrawler, Guardians, Boyhood, Chef, X-men, Snowpiercer, Captain 2, etc. Lots of great movies this year.

Every time someone says Hollywood just puts out junk and there aren't great movies coming out anymore...I just wanna smack someone.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. Lego Movie
3. ?

Really just don't have the time or interest for feature films. Netflix original or whatever series they are streaming is about all I can watch before I pass out at the end of the day. Boyhood was good, but not sure if I'd put it in my top 3.
I am looking forward to Nightcrawler, Intersteallar & Gone Girl.

The few times I did go to the theatre I chose poorly, so would put two of the worst as:
1. That horrible Ninja Turtles movie
2. Dumb & Dumber To

I'm looking forward to Birman, doesn't come out here until Friday though, and I'm seeing Exodus then, so it will have to wait until next week.

there are lots of movies i missed, but of the ones i saw...
1. guardians of the galaxy
2. the grand budapest hotel

Damn... it's been a great year for film, hard to nail it down to just three (and certainly not in a specific order). Right up there for me would be these three though:

- Boyhood (just a spectacular achievement dramatically - that managed to avoid pulling you out of the story even with the sheer audacity of what they'd done slapping you in the face)
- Interstellar (now my second favourite Nolan film after The Prestige, it really was an 'experience' for me)
- Gone Girl (I loved how thoroughly the film manipulates our perspective of the characters as it moves along, challenging the assumptions we build up as each layer is revealed)

I only saw three films at the theatre in 2014, and I'm not even sure they're from last year but they were all great:

1) The Grand Budapest Hotel
2) Only Lovers Left Alive
3) What We Do In The Shadows

So two out of three were vampire movies :)
Although I'd say that Only Lovers Left Alive is really a heroin addiction/William S. Burroughs inspired film disguised as a vampire movie.

What We Do In The Shadows was a big surprise. And very inspiring for what is possible to do on a low budget.

Of the films I saw, the only one that really stuck with me was Spike Jonze's Her. I liked Interstellar a lot but it's flaws keep it from greatness for me.
