Filming Yourself with a body mount

You've seen it on shows like MTV's FEAR and one of Janet Jackson's music videos. It's some kind of harness or mount like a steadicam body mount, but the camera is pointing in the opposite direction facing the body it is on. It gives a pretty interesting effect and I was wondering if anyone knew where they sold one for cheap (for the dvx100a of course) or had any info on how to build one for amatuer use. Also what the heck is it called? Thanks

Its called Man Cam. Call Geo film group in Van Nuys. I ve used it on a number of films and it is cool. Not so cool for actors though. They gotta stand still for a while when your mounting it on them.

Hiya:

You should check out the Mark Romanek DVD. He shot a video for Mick Jagger where Mick and Lenny Kravitz and some hot looking actress who's name escapes me, all wore a bodycam rig for the entire video. Watch the music video and listen to Romanek's commentary, pretty interesting stuff about how he decided to use it and what kinds of situations he put the actors in to get the shots.

Cool stuff.

BTW, if you like music videos Romanek is "the man".

I think I've seen that on the Doggicam reel (it's been a while though) - who also rent out a body rig BTW.

Snorri-Cam is right. They used it a lot in Requiem for a Dream. You may find some info in a related search on that movie as well.

They used this mount, filming the main characters (especially when they were stoned) extensively in a Danish film last year called NORDKRAFT.

I guess in lack of better terms one could call it a "trainspotting" type film.

Thanks for the repsonses so far! I thought long and hard about how to make one of these snorri cams and came up with a rather simple solution.
All you need is:

1. A decent sized tripod
2. The Panasonic shoulder strap that comes with your dvx (or any other strong rope/strap)

basically place two legs of the tripod under each armpit and prior to doing so, tie the panasonic shoulder strap to the foot of each tripod leg. Then place the third tripod foot below your belly button and adjust the leg lengths to tighten or loosen the snorri cam. Obviously, you want it nice and tight so it doesnt fall off. Now, just aim the tripod head for your face and VUALA, a snorri cam! I'll try and post some pictures or video later but try it yourself. It actually works and is surprisingly sturdy and allows your hands to move around quite freely. You don't want to put too much pressure on the feet of the tripods, especially if they are removable, because they will pop off fromt he pressur eof the strap but basically the snorri cam is a tripod resting horizontally on your body.
