ever use the verb "filming" in regards to your VIDEO camera? for example "Get my DVX ready, gotta FILM a wedding tomorrow..."

that's so wrong. it's "TAPING".... filming refers to film, not video. I hate that...

Taping? Time for some new vernacular for you to get uptight about, since you might not be taping at all, but carding. 'Yea I was carding my project the other day. . .'

=)

What about when shooting to P2? Is it just "shooting" ??

Back when I used to hang out at the local public access studio the folks there would freak out when someone used the term "film," but it seems to be more widely used as a catch-all these days... especially with the advent of digital everything -- from consumer to prosumer to pro.

I have been going tape less for a couple of years now. Since it ends up getting output to film eventually, what do I call it...

Pre filming?

Its still called "Filmmaking" no matter what your shooting with. Filming is just the act of making a film.

Exactly.

And I always say I'm filming. Because I am a filmmaker. DVX or not.

Haha... I actually tend to call myself a movie maker, because I'm not actually shooting with film... whenever I call myself a filmmaker, I feel like I'm lying to myself.... :)

But in reality, either terms are fine; some people might prefer one over the other.

filmmakers use film. video makers use video. you're a videomaker.

have you figured a way to run 16mm through your dvx? until you do, you're a videomaker. or is is spelled "Videommaker"? yeah, that's better, Videommaker.

If you're a filmmaker, you say that you're going to go film something. But if you're a movie maker, do you say that you're going to go move something?

this is one of those threads that shows up from time to time...

who gives a ****?

how about "i make motion pictures"...there...now its not equipment specific and we can all be on our way and one to other things, like trying to figure out what films i posted stills of in that game on the top of this forum.

how can you be filmmaker if you shoot with video? you're videommaker because you shoot with video.

what's wrong with being a videommaker anyways? nothing to be ashamed of. A lot of good movies are made on video now, take "Once upon a time In America" by Roberto Rodriguez. it was shot on video, he's a videommaker now.

this thread is not sad. it's about proper use of the english language. what's so sad about that? The english language is not sad.

Forsooth, a bloody sad thread.

Methinks.

What a waste of a brain cell.

Robert Rodriguez is no longer a filmmaker, huh? And Lucas (debatable) and then there's the film, er, tape of Collateral and of course 28 Days Later....

So what about the animated films by PIXAR?

Luce? Dude. You're killing me.

Give it a rest.
