Filming with mirrors

I am trying to get a head on shot of my subject looking into a mirror, any thoughts on how I would do this without getting a camera in the shot?

thanks

Ummmmmmmmmmmm

1. Shoot from behind and place camera in dark area (Closet, etc if applicable)

2. Shoot from P.O.V. of talent looking into mirror (camera)

Is this a trick question...???

I thought it was all done with mirrors...

With a moderate focal length, it doesn't take but a few degrees off center to pull a shot like that... just keep an eye on what you see (or don't want to see) in the reflection... Heck... I've done dolly shots like this before... no sweat...

Or what if you film from behind a frame? ie you just get an empty frame, then get the subject to stand behind it, so it looks like you're filming from his point of view looking into the mirror? Not sure if it'll work but it should in theory...

Best example I can think of is the movie La Haine (1995). Content of the movie aside, the mirror shot is quite spectacular.

It's easy to see how they did it, if your savvy to this kind of in-camera trick. They use a double, black duve, duplicate props and it's all done in a dolly move.

Here's the IMDB page.

I.

Cant you just stand away to the side of the mirror? Or do you need a straightforward shot centered on the mirror.
