i'm having trouble with lighting outside and the sun being too bright on my actors....anybody know the best way to handle that?? also what is needed on a day where there's an overcast and the sun goes behind the clouds but then comes out and BEAMS in your actors faces??

this happened to me on my last project and i didnt know how to handle it.

i dont even know what keyword to search for that would pull up decent results.

Your gonna need a silk in between the sun and your actors to diffuse the sunlight, or find a place in the shade and bounce light toward your actors. Go to the DIY section and you'll see a tutorial at the top that will show you how to make a butterfly (silk). Good luck.

You might even need a silk and a bounce. Also, if using the DVX, for high-contrast outdoors situations, the CINELINE_D might be a good gamma mode for you.

I have had the same problem with clouds. Spotty clouds can really destroy your shoot. I had a shoot where the clouds were changing dramatically from shot to shot, sometimes a couple of stops difference. It's best to have clear skies, or full-on overcast. Not much you can do about it, but hope for a good day.

That's why if you can get away with it your better off shooting in the shade. No dramatic light changes.
