hey i got hirered by a few bands to film warped tour toronto and montreal on the smaller stages... and i was wondering... cuz i only have 1 camera... would the best to be at the back and zoom in post? or should i do 2-3 songs wide, and then get close up b roll footage like strumming guitars, jumping around, cu face shots, there hands and feet and stuff like that just to cut in real quick ?

what do you guys think... i have a canon xh a1, so i figured if its a nice sunny day,and i zoom in post i wont loose alot of resolution and it wont be grainy cuz i wont need any gain.... what u think?

depends on what the bands hired you for personally. If they just want it recorded then I guess stand in the back, I get bored doing stuff like that though. I would go for the latter probably as it gives you more to edit with.

It depends on what the final product is going to be. If you're going to edit clips over a pre-recorded song then by all means get on stage and get some close ups and energy shots. But if they want the audio from the performance to run, then there's nothing to cut back to if you're the only camera which means you'll have to stay in the back and keep the wide shot.

this is like a 45 seconds i filmed at the show of alexisonfire...
um... i was wondering if you think i went about it the right away... i know its not the greatest... and they dont play to a click track so its kinda hard to sync everything up perfict... it was shot on only 1 camera...

no - just set the camera on wide and concentrate on getting good sound.

- no-one plays to a click track on stage.

that vid looked pretty good. I would focus on the band while they are on. At warped tour you can always get crowd broll from at any time.

I dont know what your really trying to do but if you make it look more like a "behind the scenes at warped tour" that could be cool and with all the behind the stage and crowd footageyou can fill in the spaces where you are adjusting a shot and record wide and close up shots during the performances.. (If that makes any sense at all)

I just did a Led Zeppelin tribute band video by my self. I did a bunch of panning and zooming during the songs and I skipped a few songs and got up on the stage and got some extra cutaways and crowd shots. I actually just had my shotgun mic on my camera when i recorded the songs and I was between the pit barrier and the stage. I was afraid I got completely distorted audio but it turned out great. I just layed down the master video/audio clip of the song, then cut to cutaways and other parts of the song where it's not completely specific to that part of the song. I will post it up on this thread when I finish it.

yea i cant wait to see it andy

i allways see filmers with mulitple camera angles... and i dont have more then 1 camera, and i dont have a crew of people...

im just trying to learn from my mistakes so id love to see your work

cheers
