Filming Sunrise - setting exposure

I'm planning on filming a sunset from the top of a mountain which is a bit of a hike so I want to get it right the first time so i don't have to go up there again.

My main consern is my exposure settings, I dont want the sun to over expose my video but it dont want to set my ND filter and iris wide since it will be too dark.

I dont think auto is an option.

I would think that with the gradual rise in light that auto would be the way to go ?

I've never done this myself of course, thinking out loud.

i was thinking that , might just go auto with ND1

Test it with a sunset before your hike...figure out what AE adjustment you need to do (if any).
