Filming in Vietnam mic advice

Hi everyone,

I'm going to Vietnam on March 3 (5days) and need some advice on what mic to bring and any tips.
I'll be filming a medical mission documentary with a host who will be doing some interviews. I was thinking of using a short shotgun mic and cabled handheld mic.
I was considering a wireless lav and handheld mics but it's out of my budget. I figured, the shotgun mic would do the job. Final documentary will be 5-7mins.

Here is what i'm bringing.(i'm trying to pack as lightly as possible to be mobile)
-DVX100
-12 MiniDV tapes
-AKG headphones
-3 Batteries
-1 10' xlr cable
-1 handheld mic
-Lowepro Rolling CompuTrekker Plus AW backpack
-Apple 15'' Laptop
-G-drive 100Gb external hardrive

Don't forget a small watertight case like the Pelican 1120 and some silica gel to keep the tapes from getting crushed or otherwise ruined.

Make sure you take a collapsible boom pole and windsock for your shotgun. I think on a budget, a shotgun and a handheld will probably be your best bet. I use my shotgun all the time and it sounds great! I would definately go hardwired if feasible simply because of batteries going down at weorst possible times, interference, etc.
