Ok we are filming a documentary in two weeks during Sundance and also 5 days in march.

95% of this will be indoor with lowlight except for stage lights, and I am renting on-camera lights for the cameras as well.

My question is I need 3-4 cameras (We dont need HD cameras..) And I have one DVX and I need to rent 2 other cameras. I was going to rent 2 other Dvx's but they only have one available. So out of the following cameras which ones would you choose?

Canon GL2
Canon XL2
HDV Sony HVR-V1U
HDV Canon XHA1
HD/HDV JVC GY-HD100

Also I need to film a few interviews, what mic would be best (I dont know crap about sound, but if I end up having to do the audio)

Wireless Sennheiser/Sony Mic
Sennheiser ME66
Sony ECM-678

Thanks for all of your help.

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing the XL2 would be the best matchup for your DVX. As for mics, I wasn't impressed with the ME66 -- I'd probably go with the ECM-678.

Good luck!

IMHO, none of the above. Assuming you're going to be interviewing these folks on the fly, rigging a wireless on the subject is going to be awkward. As for the others you list, no mic, including shotgun mics, sounds very good when you have it too far from the subject, 2 to 3 feet is usually as far as you'd want to go even with shotguns, and unless you're going to shove your camera right into their face your camera position will usually be farther than that. It is extremely rare that an on-camera mic is going to be more than marginally effective. How about considering the reporter's standby, a hand-held dynamic stick mic such as the ElectroVoice RE50?

Thanks for all of your input and help. Yeah most of these interviews will be in between there sets and after shows. I think I will have them hire someone else to be in charge of the sound, cause I don't know too much about it.
