Filming in Italy - Insurance needs?

Hello, to all. I hope this post is in an acceptable thread catagory.

I am planning a trip and some shooting with my DVX100A in Italy this spring (I am from the U.S.), and i was wondering if any of you who may have filmed overseas know the best way to go about protecting my gear for insurance purposes (i.e. Theft Protection), and what companies might offer such a service.

Thank you in advance. I will post some clips after my trip.

i have my equipment under an extended insurance policy based on my home insurance policy. i shot in holland last year and I let them know about it, and they said as long as they have documentation about where i'm going with it, my policy will cover it...

Where in Italy?

If in Naples, I wouldn´t appear there with a DVX, but if in the north part of the country I wouldn´t worry.

Be very careful with your gear, in Italy! Watch it at all times. Gangs of petty thieves roam around the cities (eg historic sites) and are very good at lifting anything.

Also, will you store it in a hotel room? If you rent a car, keep it locked in the trunk. Do not have any camera gear visible through the windows.

Price?

I will be spending most of my time in Northern Italy, mostly Tuscany, and will be traveling by train. Are there any problems related to camera's or tapes due to train electricity that i should be aware of?

Just be carefull

Just be carefull

Check my last name, it should tell you that English is not my Native language, it's not and yes it's Italian, but I'm French, and I live in the US. Mother French, father italian.

Naples as somebody mentioned it already, forget about it!
Still in the North you should be carefull.
YOur chances for your cam to be stolen are high.
Be aware of your surroundings. Try to have somebody watch your back.

Italians will be very ingenous in devising schemes to get your cam, including scooters speeding by you and beautiful girls drawing your attention away.
After all the country has a rate of 20 percent unemployement for the less than 30 year old, these people must make a living, right?

Don't be paranoid, just aware.
Phil

I took my DVX with me to Rome last summer, and I am heading back to Italy at the end of this month. As others have said watch your gear at ALL times. (I NEVER let my DVX out of my hands, and everything had locks on it.) The trip went smoothly, just be aware of your surroundings.

One other thing you should be aware of, is that the trains do not run on time. They just kinda show up whenever, so allow lots of time to travel. I did not expierence any bad results with where I kept the camera while on the train, but if you are worried about it, just keep it off of the floor and away from any potential magnetic source and you'll be fine. (I kept mine in my bag, firmly grasped in my lap.)
Good luck, and enjoy- there is some beautiful country side out there.

I filmed in Italy last year with my DVX. I was based in Rome for a week, and followed a group around various famous sites in Italy. Everything went smoothly, but I want to echo everyone else's comments to be aware of your surroundings. Nothing compares to how paranoid I felt carrying my cam around NYC though...
