Filming a Plasma TV

I'm trying to film a subject off of a Plasma TV. I can not seem to get rid of the banding/flicker. I have tried several different shutter speeds. Any advice?

What camera are you using? Worst case scenario is to use a greenscreen on it...

Shoot the tv by itself turned "Off" and in post simply place your subject inside of the tv frame. You can shoot your subject against an all black background to isolate him, then in post simply place him inside of the tv.

Are you in North America? Try a shutter speed of around 1/60. Don't know what the 7D or 5D can do, but a decimal-increment shutter speed should get you there.

Keep in mind, though, that while this may take care of the band, it might not get rid of the image flicker if the footage being displayed is 24p (would be especially problematic) or even 60i/p. That would be a mismatch of frame rates.

Ah a 5D or 7D makes a screen harder, they get moire like crazy and screens tend to give it. Why not greenscreen it? You could just tape up a green fabric over the screen and then play a white background behind it, giving a nice even light.

If he has any camera movement through the scene, that would complicate a greenscreen solution -- unless he has motion tracking capabilities.

I know... But I figured I might aswell say it. What he could do is to do it Roger Rabbit style: Film a test shot of the TV with the movement just to se what it should look like, then when it's done you could greenscreen in the new one.
