Filming a night scene with the HVX

What is the best way to light... making it look natural..... at night outside??? WHat about post color correction in this situation?

Well, what exactly are you trying to do. Do you have sodium vapor lights you plan on shooting under?

If you can provide more information - we can provide a better idea.

A lot of backlight with just enough soft fill from the camera side is a good start for night scenes.
A blueish tint can be helpful to make it look like night, but you don't necessarily need it.

If you are going for nighttime/moonish type motivated light source, a slightly soft, rear (back) 3/4ths quarter key light will do nicely. Add some fill and you should be good. Blue cast can help as FBAS mentioned. This is all textbook, but hey, it works.

Background lights might help, to distinguish the scene isn't in a black void or limbo.

If there is another light source you want to be motivated, let us know.

Filming a night scene with an HVX200 will require more light than if you were using a good miniDV cam like the Sony PD170. That said, a lot of night scenes fall into two categories: High-contrast pools of light, or low-contrast whole scenes. The former is cheaper too, since only specific areas of a shot require lighting.
