Filming a Glow in the Dark Party

I have a glow in the dark party @ a club I have to film coming up. From what I understand its going to be completely pitch black with neon lights on the wall, party goers going about the party with glow in the dark body paint, contacts, necklaces clothes etc. How do I light this for a DVX. I have a 100 watt on cam light, will that take from it or will it help me because I think it will take away from the effect. Anyone who has filmed an event like this or similar. Also this is a big club wit 500+ capacity, so a standing constant light is out of the option, I must roam around the club

Well, you're not going to want to light anything otherwise it will ruin the whole effect and point of filming. I guess you just have to hope that it's bright enough, and if not you may have to boost the gain a bit. Also, you could try shooting at a slower shutter speed.

You can get UV bulbs for HMI's. I would put a 1200 HMI in a corner somewhere and blast the room with UV just to make sure there's enough glow-power. Shouldn't cost too much to rent, and I bet most rental places have UV bulbs.

You can also put UV film over your existing light, but you'll lose so much to make it pointless.

pmark23, wouldn't it be necessary to shoot in "night-shot" mode (and I think the DVX100 doesn't have one) to be able to use the UV lights? I think that would also destroy the atmosphere because everything's b/w and it just looks like through night vision goggles.

Or do you think the additional UV light will make people's glow-paint/clothes glow so much more that it's bright enough for normal video?

I've shot some video with two uv flouro bars that I have at home, they look purple on camera... At least in my hmc...... and you'll need plenty of it (not only uv, but flourescent paint, as what you want capture is the color reflected by the uv, not the uv light itself.)

"Night-Shot" wouldn't work because it's on the other end of the spectrum than UV (IR). The spectrum goes: Infrared Red Orange Yellow Blue Green Violet Ultraviolet.

A bright UV source will do a lot to help the UV sources glow brighter.
