I was hoping I could get some tips for filming a fight scene, being shot in a medium sized bathroom. We will be gelling the lights green to give it a grundgy tone. Any camera tricks tips and advice wouold be great.

Re: Filming a fight scene

Can I make a suggestion? I'm no authority or anything, but I think that you should use longer takes and not quick cutaways. Also you should handhold the camera(or steadicam). I wouldn't use a tripod. It will give the scene a distinct feeling of realism and it will look much grittier and rougher with longer takes because the auidience will see the swing, the impact and the result. it's much more dramatic. Just a suggestion. Hope that helps.

Hopefully you have some idea of what you are trying to accomplish and most likely inspired from what you have seen. Watch these films and take notes, shot for shot.

Handhold yes.

Get the whole fight in a 2-shot from 2 angles (one above?)
Get a single CU for each punch or punch combo.
Get a CU coverage of each fighter for the whole fight.
Get a CU for each special event (grab of an item, etc.)

Your editor will love you...

Re: Filming a fight scene

quite nice but you've gotta watch your axis. they keep "flipping" screen direction towards the end. another detail would be color matching the shots. It stops the fluidity when the shots don't have the same lighting and color tone. Just constructive criticism. Other than that really good coverage.

Re: Filming a fight scene

I'm new on here. I think it's obvious. I just shot my first fight scene like 15 years ago. Only if I can find some footage of the new fight scene I did now and compare it to then, It looks the same but the actors are a lot older now. :)
