Film Telecine Workflow opinions

The last few S16mm shorts I've shot were transferred to HDCAM, with a dub to DVCAM. For whatever reasons, the movies were eventually just finished with the DVCAM dubs with no match back to the HDCAM master or film negative.

They could have just saved some bucks mastering on digi beta. I don't see the benefits of mastering to HDCAM for film. Most film festivals will project using 35mm or Digibeta I think.

What's your opinion on what the master format should be? I'm curious because I'm shooting my own short in about two months. I'm not an editor - perhaps this is more of an editor's question.

Thx.

Actually, most festivals prefer an HDCAM submission. It's always nice to have an HD archived copy on a drive if you can afford to just master to HDCAM to begin with, this way your always prepared in some situation you would ever want an HD version, Festivals, Blu Ray, etc.
