Synopsis

According to the synopsis on the film's official website, the film is composed of three movements. The first movement, Des choses comme ça ("Such things") is set on a cruise ship, featuring multi-lingual conversations among a medley collection of passengers. Characters include an aging war criminal, a former United Nations official and a Russian detective. The second movement, Notre Europe ("Our Europe"), involves a pair of children, a girl and her younger brother, summoning their parents to appear before the "tribunal of their childhood", demanding serious answers on the themes of liberty, equality, and freedom. The final movement, Nos humanités ("Our humanities") visits six legendary sites: Egypt, Palestine, Odessa, Hellas, Naples, and Barcelona.

The cruise ship is the Costa Serena, sailing around the Mediterranean Sea.

It is rumored to be his last film.

The ideas in it may very well be brilliant, but I wouldn't read a book full of simple grammatical mistakes, and I can't enjoy a film that doesn't have a base level of technical competence. I could even forgive the camcorder video if the sound were decent, but the audio is just as bad as the visuals.

well, he is infamous for 'poo-pooing' on all traditional conventions. i haven't seen any of his work (apart from trailers and clips on youtube). all i know of his work is what i've read about it.

reviews i've read of this film have been polarized.

Your taste of course, but I thought the shots on the trailer was very well executed; Chiaroscuro lighting (cinematography) with pretty much available light.
Godard is not my taste either; i like him as an essayist(according to his own words) but to call his work "doesn't have a base level of technical competence" is simply ignorance on your part.

He's just one of many directors who couldn't evolve.

He's still stuck being the guy he was when nouvelle vague started.

This is not revolution nor evolution anymore, it's repetition.

IMO

It looks and sound like crap. I call it crap. I don't give him a pass just because he's Godard, even if he was going for this aesthetic. To my eyes it looks like something made by a first year art student.
