FILM SETS super cheap!!! DIY!!! HOW?

Hi everyone.

I am still at high school and soon getting my own DVX100b camera (still on order). I am going to be making a short film with it but on an ultra micro budget. I am talking real cheap.

For a few scenes I want to have a couple of home made sets (to be shot on my large rumpus room) with walls roughly 2 meters high by about 2. It would be good to put a few pieces together to form one panel but 2 by 2 is okay.

The problem I face is I want it to be cheap but to look like they are real walls. Any suggestions, Should I cover them with fabric, plaster of paris them?

Hope someone can help!

You can go the theater route: build your 2x2 meter frame from 1x2s, adequately braced, then stretch muslin over them and staple it taut, then dope the muslin with primer, then paint, and you'll have lightweight, wallish-looking flats.

Or go the film/tv route; frame out with 1x2's, then staple luan or plywood to the frame, then fill, prime, sand, prime, and paint.

Don't use plaster, unless you are after a specific finish that can only be achieved with plaster. It adds weight, expense, and construction time, and getting a really good plaster finish on a flat is not all that easy.
