Yo! I'm the jerk in the title. I'm just a renegade writer trying his hand at telling stories via this ethereal meaningless ego driven thing called Directing.

I learn a lot from watching the ideas of other people and how they executed them. I wanted to do an experiment in educational thread about cool films you may or may not have seen that I felt are very inspirational on various levels (visuals, actings, maybe both, maybe none!) Hopefully I don't rack up more infractions but when the mood strikes I'll add a film here and let me know if you learned anything from it - think it rocks, or think it sucks and feel free to drop a trailer in here and I''ll check it out too.

First Up is Alejandro Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain! - *** NSFW ****

I think this film is awesome. It's a visual treat. It's very nose bleed intense.
I can't believe he squeezed all this into the film and in 1973 without green screen/3D mattes!
It has lots of things that might offend people that may hold certain believes (animals saftey, religion, symbolic organizations, deontology, life itself.)
I don't want to spoil it, but this film is dense and travels far. Very influential on my personal work.

Oh yeah! One of the best films of all time in my opinion - and a lot of other peoples.
A very simple story - but the characters and dialouge are so full of gravitas.
This is the basics of telling a real story. Drama, Humor, Suspense all wrapped up in a nice amazing package with amazing visuals.
A master director - and Bogart? Oh yeah! If you dont like this film - we cant even be friends.

Good List dude!
Here is the trailer for Heavy metal. I love it - this film's pacing wouldnt rock today how films are financed but one can dream!

Time Bandits by Terry Gilliam (of monty python) - THis is a old style trailer no one would do anymore - but this movie is awesome in scope and design. Thanks terry for the inspiration forever

Also [h=1]La Jetée[/h]This film is incredibly powerful , and was the basis for the remake Twelve monkey's (by terry gilliam as well) - the original though, with it's stills and timeless sci-fi undercurrent is amazing. Excellent and a must see in film school. In two parts with subtitles here.

My all time favorite is Forbidden Planet. I wish I could see more like this on ScyFy instead of the crappy movie of the week movies they make.
