Film questions

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
1) How much do foley artists make?
2) Editors?
3) Directors?
4) Cinematographers?
5) Actors?

The guy who holds up the reflector/white board for lighting, what is his main duty? Can't be just that...

Thanks :)

Robbie

The answer is always "It depends". Mostly on where you are located. New York, LA, Sacramento, or Toronto. The LA answers can be found on a website called Reelgrok.com where they post lots of info, planning data, sample budgets, etc. and their accompaning Yahoo chat site called LA Producers.
Most of the positions in your question are "above the line" folks, meaning their pay is usually a negotiated deal rather than a general standard like the "below the line" crew people. And then there is the question of "are you talking movies or TV?" The pay rates can vary there too. As Batuttal mentioned a pay rate for an editor...I'm guessing that was for video. In Sacramento, we charge $125 an hour... but when we do a big project, we will bid on a Project Price for the whole thing rather than by the hour.
Oh and the guy that holds the reflector may be in the Light Crew, the Grip Crew... or that catch-all "Production Assistant"... Which means he does anything and everything...including getting the coffee!
