Film Promotion via Distributor?

Hi, i was wondering, after a producer manages to sell a film to a distribution company, is it down to the producer or distribution company to sort out promotion, publicity, dvd covers, posters, then getting a film certificate from the bbfc / film rating comittee? Or is that all still down to the producer? I guess either way whatever the producer can do for free will interest the distributor? As they have less to do, therefore saving money....

Thanks. DG.

From what I've heard typically, all the bulk of promotion/marketing, the company will handle... this is usually worked out in the deal.
